Shakira’s turnaround: From breaking up with Pique to Woman of the Year award

After going through one of the toughest years in her personal life, Shakira is gradually recovering and she is enjoying professional success and her new life in Miami.

On top of all that, she will be named Latin Woman of the Year by Billboard at their inaugural Latin Women In Music celebration.

Using her break-up to write inspirational music
Shakira broke up with partner Gerard Pique last year and the former couple share two kids, Milan and Sasha, both of whom are staying with her mother.

Since their split, Sharika has been constantly making headlines and took advantage of what happened to write some songs and put Latin women in the spotlight.

“Latinas around the world empowered themselves to write and perform deeply personal music,” said Leila Cobo, Billboard’s content director for Latin/Spanish.

“She created a movement entirely on her own and remains more relevant than ever today, with elegance, enormous talent, and a deep tradition of helping the community. She is the definition of a woman in music.”

Shakira’s achievements in music
In an article published by Billboard, the magazine refers to all Shakira’s achievements, in addition to the fact that she has unleashed a kind of female revolution and took advantage of her heartbreak to turn a profit.

“In the past few months, Shakira has placed four songs at No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin charts and broken 14 Guinness World Records,” Billboard noted.

“She’s also been celebrated with a retrospective exhibition at the Grammy Museum. Oh, and she’s sparked something of a female revolution along the way.

“The Colombian superstar turned one of the most difficult years of her life into an unprecedented comeback in Spanish-language music by opening her heart to show us that it’s okay to be vulnerable.”

Throughout her successful career, the famous singer has sold more than 90 million records.
