Everything We Know About Taylor Swift Skipping the 2023 Met Gala

Another Met Gala has come and gone, and Taylor Swift has once again skipped out on the festivities.

Though fans were clamoring for an appearance from the Grammy winner, her absence from the 2023 Met Gala comes as no surprise since Swift is currently in the midst of her nationwide Eras Tour. Just this past weekend, she performed three sold-out shows at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. She is set to perform another three concerts this weekend at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium.

With her schedule likely already filled to the brim with the back-to-back concerts, tour rehearsals, and travel time, it’s pretty understandable that Swift would choose to miss out on this year’s Met Gala.

Besides probable schedule complications from The Eras Tour, Swift also hasn’t attended a Met Gala since 2016, when she served as the evening’s co-chair. Considering her tendency to skip fashion’s biggest night, it was unlikely that she would break her six year-long hiatus today.

The “Anti-Hero” singer has attended the event six times throughout her career. When she last walked the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s carpeted steps in 2019, she had honored the “Manus x Machina” theme in a metallic minidress with waist cutouts and a tiered ruffled skirt, designed by Louis Vuitton.

Despite her Met Gala absence, Swifties still have plenty of recent red-carpet looks to fawn over.

Back in March, Swift attended the iHeartRadio Music Awards in a crystal-embellished dark blue hooded top and matching pantaboots from Alexandre Vauthier’s spring/summer 2023 couture collection. She continued her “Bejeweled” streak at the 2023 Grammys in February, when she showed up in a navy blue Roberto Cavalli set comprised of an ultra-cropped turtleneck and dramatic maxi skirt, both of which were covered in sparkling beads.
