See all the Met Gala 2023 looks you may have missed: Lizzo, Cardi B and more
The Met Gala 2023 red carpet was packed with glitz, glamour, and monochromatic fashion moments befitting the night’s honoree, late designer Karl Lagerfeld. While some celebrities chose archival Chanel, Fendi or Chloé looks of Lagerfeld’s creation, others nodding to the German great’s signature style with tweed, pearls, chains or fingerless gloves.
However, there were a few stars who fully embraced the spirit of Lagerfeld — who was perhaps the industry’s most prolific worker — by switching up their outfits throughout the night. Here, see the looks from Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Cardi B and more that you may have missed amid the hoopla.
Lizzo graced the Met steps in a simple black Chanel gown made spectacular by layers of pearls.
But once inside the event, the “Truth Hurts” singer performed for the crowd wearing an intricate mirrored Fendi Couture cape.
She then whipped off the outerwear to reveal a custom bedazzled bodysuit from her own shapewear brand, Yitty.
Lil Nas X stunned the crowd when he showed up wearing nothing but a thong, platform boots and silver body paint — along with thousands of Swarovski crystals, pearls and embellishments to transform into a high-fashion cat in honor of Lagerfeld’s kitty, Choupette.
While inside, the “Montero” rapper covered up in a white fur coat.
Emily Ratajkowski cut her own bangs to make a statement at the charity event, walking the carpet in a plunging Tory Burch gown.
But at some point in the evening, the model swapped her ethereal gown for a party-ready purple mini.
Janelle Monáe’s Thom Browne outfit was actually multiple looks in one, with the “Glᴀss Onion” star stripping down to a sheer wireframe gown atop a sequined ʙικιɴι on the carpet.
But that wasn’t all: Inside the museum, they changed into a dotted blazer and striped skirt from the same designer, keeping the same Choupette-inspired purse and towering platforms.
Speaking of Choupette, even the Met Gala security dog was confused when an oversized cat made its way onto the red carpet. Turns out, it was Jared Leto hiding inside the hyper-realistic costume.
Leto de-robed inside, carrying around the furry feline face and showing off his black caped Karl Lagerfeld look and dramatic eye makeup.
Cardi B stepped out of the Mark Hotel in an over-the-top pink confection by Miss Sohee — but fans were in for a surprise when she arrived on the red carpet.
The “I Like It” rapper not only switched up her outfit — trading the pink dress for a camellia-covered Chenpeng Studio ballgown accessorized with a Lagerfeld-inspired tie — but also added a gray wig to match.
And her looks didn’t stop there. Amazingly, Cardi changed yet again while inside the ball, going for a pink-and-black houndstooth creation by Richard Quinn.
