Kanye West slammed for ‘shalom’ tweet after Twitter ban for antisemitic posts

Kanye West returned to Twitter at the weekend and immediately caused controversy within his first few tweets. The rapper, 45, tested the waters as he tweeted “Shalom” – a clear reference to the incident which got him banned in the first place.

Kanye was initially kicked off the social media platform on October 9 for posting antisemitic tweets. However, since Elon Musk successfully bought Twitter for $44 Billion, the musician now legally known as Ye has had his account reinstated.

However, it appears he’s not ready to change how he acts with his use of the Hebrew word antagonising many on the platform.

Shalom means peace, harmony and wholeness and can be used idiomatically to mean both hello and goodbye.

Many Twitter users took exception to his post and believed he was trying to stir up ill-feelings once again. One user wrote: “So now it’s a joke? This is just so ridiculous,” while another slammed: “Not funny, antisemite. Go away. You are universally hated.”

A third penned: “Nothing funny about hate,” while a fourth pleaded: “Can you please just leave us alone?” The Donda hitmaker saw his fortune dwindle following his outbursts with many big-name brands quickly distancing themselves from him. Among those cutting ties was fashion brand Adidas who the star had paired with to create the popular Yeezy footwear.

However, following the sports giant ripping up Ye’s contract, they are now reportedly set to bring back their designs – minus the Yeezy logo and branding.

It’s claimed Adidas is planning to bring out new Yeezy trainers without the star’s stamp as early as 2023 with reports suggesting the company has “emphasised to their shareholders” that it remains the “sole owner of the core designs of the current Yeezys in circulation”.
