Here’s Why Miley Cyrus Decided to Skip This Year’s VMAs

Sorry to literally everyone, but there will be no iconic Miley moments this year. 😭

Oh, that? Nothing much, just the sound of Smilers everywhere screaming, crying, and/or throwing up because Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus sadly didn’t make it to this year’s VMAs.

And tbh, it makes all the sense in the world why all of us were low-key bummed out about the singer’s absence: (1) She’s Miley Cyrus, and (2) she’s not-so-casually nominated for *a ton* of categories at this year’s awards show ceremony, because of course she is.

Our favorite wrecking ball musician was up for a total of five (!!) distinctions in almost every eligible category—including the highly coveted Song of the Year and Video of the Year brackets. Oh, and she was also included in the Best Pop, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing categories.

Recently, the “Flowers” singer opened up about her life in her new TikTok series, “Used to Be Young,” which is tied to the release of the musician’s latest single of the same name. During one of the series’ episodes, Miley took a look back at one of her intense daily schedules while shooting Hannah Montana, and W-O-W is all we can say.

“5:30 a.m.?!” Miley exclaimed upon seeing what her day looked like on one such Friday, January 5 when she was around “12 or 13” years old. “5:30 a.m., hair and makeup in my H๏τel. 7 a.m., we get picked up. 7:15, I’m on the news. 7:45, I have another live interview. 8:15, another interview. 8:45, another interview,” she read aloud from her stacked list of to-dos.

The singer also confessed that on that day in particular, she also had an hour-and-a-half-long meeting with editors; an interview with 5th-grade student reporters; a lunch interview with her father, fellow musician Billy Ray Cyrus; a Life magazine pH๏τo shoot and interview for their Father’s Day issue; and even more interviews until her final one at 6:15 p.m.

“Then the next day starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. when I fly home to probably go to [the] Hannah [ Montana set]. That’s on a Saturday, and then Monday be back at work in the morning,” Miley added, joking that, “I’m a lot of things, but lazy ain’t one of ’em.”

Toward the end of the video, Miley’s mom, Tish Cyrus, joined in on the convo to shed some additional light on her daughter’s demanding schedule and said, “That truly was the next four years of your life.”

“So I do think this girl deserves a little endless summer vacation,” Miley quipped as a cheeky comeback and reference to her most recent album, Endless Summer Vacation.

Sad because Miley’s absence is totally felt tonight, but happy because clearly the star has earned a break!!
