Taylor Swift does DC: Sweaty and Sєxy with guest star Jason Derulo

“Hi, I’m Taylor. I was born in 1989.”

Simple and sweet is how Taylor Swift introduced herself on stage at last night’s 1989 tour stop in Washington, DC. Thanks to a pair of surprise tickets from my husband, I spent my birthday front and center at the sold-out show, surrounded by fans, some shrieking, many too stunned to do much more than sway and stare at Swift in adoration.

Here’s what I learned:

1. Taylor is human, and she gets sweaty just like everyone else

DC summers are notoriously H๏τ and humid, and last night was no exception. Taylor was dripping sweat right along with the rest of us — even more so, since she was the one singing and dancing on stage in various (awesome) outfits under H๏τ lights for roughly two hours. But with the threat of heavy thunderstorms looming over the outdoor concert venue all day, she cut her opening acts short and gave us what we all came to see.

2. She says she’s been listening to Jason Derulo’s Want To Want Me on her iPod every day this summer – and surprise! He made a special guest appearance. It was fantastic:

3. The show is more than just singing and dancing

Interviews with members of Taylor’s power posse of girlfriends were played on the jumbo screens throughout the night. Stars including Selena Gomez, Jaime King, Lena Dunham, Lily Aldridge and Taylor’s best friend from growing up, Abigail, chimed in on what it’s like to be friends with the superstar, and hammered home that having a supportive group of girlfriends is wonderful — but trust within that group is the most important thing.

We tend to agree.
