WILL Smith has BET Awards viewers buzzing online as he was accused of surprising watchers by rapping like Kanye West.

As the movie star recently released the fourth movie in his Bad Boy franchise, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, his fans were excited to hear he’d premiere new music at the 2024 BET Awards Sunday night.

Despite being eager to hear the Fresh Prince’s new music, BET Awards viewers quickly went to online to express how they were surprised by his performance.

“Will borrowed Kanye Sunday service for tonight,” someone said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “This Will Smith performance is giving Kanye vibes,” another person added.

“Will Smith cosplaying as Kanye West is killing me right now,” a BET Awards viewer stated. “But the song is beautiful.”

“Kanye [is going to] diss Will Smith tomorrow,” a user joked. An individual asked: “Is Will Smith tryna be Kanye?” The BET Awards returned to Los Angeles’ Peacock this year with Taraji P. Henson as the host.

The song Will performed during the award show, You Can Make It, is his first original song that he’s released since his 2017 EDM track Get Lit, American Song Writer reported.

The reason many watchers felt like Will’s new song premiere sounded similar to the style of Kanye’s music is because he performed the song with the All of the Lights artist’s Sunday Service choir.

Singer-songwriter Fridayy was also a part of the premiere of Will’s new song. Some of the lyrics featured in his new song have been recognized as being uplifting.

“Walking through the valley of the shadow of death,” Will states in You Can Make It.

“And when you think you’ve got nothing left, keep going.” Despite the encouraging words, some people said that they don’t like the song.

“My thoughts, Not feeling Kanye Will Smith song,” someone stated on X.

“No Will,” another chimed in, and added he was “biting Eminem’s old flow.”

Others were glad that Will’s rapping again, as one person shared, “The Fresh Prince is back.”

“Nobody can ever make me not like this guy,” a user stated.

They shared these sentiments in light of many fans turning on Will after he slapped Oscars host Chris Rock in front of the audience and live broadcast at the 94th Academy Awards in 2022.

He hit Chris after the comedian made a joke about Will’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
