‘ATTACK’ ALERT Charles and Camilla ushered to safety by royal security after they spotted suspect on ROOF hours after Trump shooting

Charles, 75, and Camilla, 77, were quickly removed from an open-air expo where they were chatting to locals and whisked away to a nearby H๏τel to take shelter.

One witness who was talking to the King as it happened said protection officers appeared and said: “He has to go now.”

Eagle-eyed security, working with cops, saw someone on a roof overlooking Liberation Square, St Helier, Jersey, where the royal couple were greeting well-wishers. The suspect was challenged by police, but no action taken after a background check. The incident was declared a false alarm.

Monday’s security scare came just two days after US Secret Service blunders allowed a would-be ᴀssᴀssin to fire off sH๏τs at Donald Trump from a nearby roof.

The former US President was speaking at a Republican rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday when he was sH๏τ in the ear by Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20,  who was then killed by Secret Service snipers.

Crooks’ attack inadvertently killed a volunteer firefighter. Two other rally-goers were injured. Palace insiders insist there were no heightened security tensions for the King and Queen’s visit to Jersey and Guernsey following the attempt to kill Trump.

But Ken Wharfe, a former Royal Protection Officer, said: “Had there not been an incident involving Donald Trump, this would probably have gone unnoticed and maybe action would have been different.

“But the very fact there were criticisms of the Secret Service and police because there was a rooftop problem with Donald Trump, under the circumstances, I would have probably done the same.

“Had this man been found with something dangerous and they hadn’t taken them out of the pitch, they would be roundly criticised.

“Their immediate ᴀssessment was correct.”

Matt Taylor, founder of Jersey Sea Salt, was chatting to the King at the expo when the security alert happened.

He said: “He stopped at the stall and said ‘Ooh sea salt’ and I said ‘Come and have a chat, Sir.’ Then his security appeared and grabbed me and said ‘He has to go, now.’

“He didn’t seem panicked, but he was quite stern.”

The King and Queen emerged shortly after from a nearby H๏τel to cheers from flag-waving fans. The Trump shooting is seen as one of the worst blunders in US Secret Service history. Reports claim Crooks was identified as a “person of interest” an hour before the shooting.

The King, who wrote privately to Trump following last week’s shooting, was himself fired at with blanks while on stage at Darling Harbour, in Sydney, Australia, in 1994.

Princess of Wales was among public figures researched by Donald Trump’s would-be ᴀssᴀssin on his phone, it was reported yesterday. Images of Kate were then saved by Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, before he tried to murder the former president. FBI had seized and extensively analysed the shooter’s two phones and laptop since Saturday’s rally.

They also discovered he had looked up US government figures like FBI chief Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland. There was also pictures of Trump and President Biden at party political rallies.
