Kendall Jenner Is The First Person To Wear This Vintage 1999 Givenchy By McQueen Gown

We love Kendall Jenner’s figurative take on The Garden Of Time at the 2024 Met Gala. The model wore one of Alexander McQueen’s Fall 1999 haute couture pieces for Givenchy. Covered in 100,000 black and brᴀss beads and sequins, this regal gown has actually never been worn, having never shown on a runway.

“I’m so, so incredibly honoured to wear it. I’m the first human to wear it—it showed on a mannequin,” Jenner said on the carpet. “It was a miracle that it fit, it was a miracle that [my team and I] found it and it feels meant to be. I’m so happy.

This year’s Met Gala is themed Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion with a “Garden Of Time” dress code. According to Max Hollein, The Met’s Marina Kellen French Director and CEO, it will “push the boundaries of our imagination and invite us to experience the multi-sensory facets of a garment.”

“Sleeping Beauties will heighten our engagement with these masterpieces of fashion by evoking how they feel, move, sound, smell, and interact when being worn, ultimately offering a deeper appreciation of the integrity, beauty, and artistic brilliance of the works on display,” he says.

Unlike her sister Kim Kardashian, Jenner’s search for a strong archival piece to wear to the Met Gala didn’t begin by opening Marilyn Monroe’s wardrobe.

“When I first heard [the theme], I thought of something archival and started doing a little bit of research and I came across this dress. The chances that [the house of Givenchy] had it available were really slim, the chances that it fit me were also really slim—I couldn’t do any tailoring—and it fit perfectly! So, it feels meant to be.”
