Of Course, Miley Cyrus Made These Wardrobe Basics Look Ridiculously Cool

It’s fall’s cool-girl uniform.

I’m taking my wardrobe back to square one this fall. Despite spending the last few years leaning into statement pieces and maximalism, this season, I’ve found myself obsessed with how chic great basics look.

For the most part, my inspo board for fall is filled with simple-but-elegant looks: Julianne Moore in a trench coat, Lady Gaga in tailored trousers, and Dakota Johnson in a timeless cardigan. But Miley Cyrus just convinced me to add a few cooler—but still just as wearable—pieces to my wardrobe.

I’m used to bold, Sєxy looks from the singer, so I was kind of surprised by how simple her most recent outfit was. What was even more surprising, however, was how cool it all still felt. The star of her outfit was that double-breasted leather coat, which she ʙuттoned to the very top. For a style that’s often ᴀssociated with “grunge,” this one felt remarkably polished. And though the jacket might have been the show-stopping piece, it didn’t stop me from noticing how perfect Cyrus’s jeans and shoes were—in fact, they’re the two items I want the most.

I love a comfy, giant pair of jeans as much as the next person, but (speaking from experience) they can sometimes look a little sloppy, especially once you start pairing them with oversized outerwear. That’s why I was immediately obsessed with Cyrus’s jeans. Her slim-fit wide-legs still had some roominess, but they weren’t overwhelmingly large. The jeans found that perfect balance between a classic straight-leg and an oversized style: sleek but still comfortable.

Cyrus finished the look with simple but Sєxy black boots that further elevated the jeans. The leather shoes—which featured a square toe and thin heel—fit her like a glove. Between their skin-tight silhouette and general coolness, those boots made her relaxed denim feel less everyday.
