Miley Cyrus (‘Flowers’) and Taylor Swift (‘Anti-Hero’) are neck-and-neck in latest Grammy odds for Record of the Year

The Grammys eligibility period ended on September 15, which means we’ve now heard every song that’s eligible for Record of the Year at the upcoming Grammys. So who’s ahead for the award?

As of this writing, based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users, it’s a neck-and-neck race between Miley Cyrus‘s “Flowers” and Taylor Swift‘s “Anti-Hero.” “Flowers” has the slight advantage with 9/2 odds and support from six Gold Derby Editors who cover awards year-round, eight of the Top 24 Users who got the highest scores predicting last year’s Grammy nominations and 13 of the All-Star Top 24 who got the highest scores when you combine the last two years’ nominations predictions. But “Anti-Hero” is close behind with 5/1 odds and the backing of five Editors, seven Top Users and seven All-Stars.

On paper the two songs are pretty evenly matched, at least in terms of their commercial performance. Both of them spent eight weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, and both songs are still on the chart. “Flowers” is currently charting higher, but “Anti-Hero” is 12 weeks older, which may account for its lower position.

As artists, though, Swift would seem to have a decisive advantage. Cyrus has only ever been nominated for two Grammys: Best Pop Vocal Album for “Bangerz” and Album of the Year as a featured artist on Lil Nas X‘s “Montero.” Swift, meanwhile, has won 12 Grammys and earned previous Record of the Year nominations for “You Belong with Me,” “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” “Shake it Off” and “Blank Space.” But neither artist has won this category before, so they’re both aiming for a career first. Do you agree that one of these two artists will get it?
