Shakira goes in hard on her entourage: I have been exterminating the rats around me

After a few months of silence from Shakira after her statements in the Bizarrap session charging against ex-footballer Gerard Pique and his new girlfriend Clara Chia, she has returned to the fray with the new song ‘El jefe’, in which she has thrown stones at her ex-father-in-law. But she has also talked about her more personal side in an interview with Billboard magazine after being chosen by the same as Woman of the Year.

Her life has turned 180 degrees and has changed “dramatically” and what she values most right now after her separation is the time she enjoys with her children: “The time I spend with my children, I’m with them. For example, during this summer, the time they were with me, and they were not with their father, I was totally dedicated to them, without working (…). If I am going to have them only half of the time, make that half of the time the most”.

The artist has ᴀssured that she dedicated more time to her family than to her career as an artist, and that “being in Barcelona was very difficult to attend to my professional life”. Now that half of her time is not in Barcelona, she has confirmed that “she is going to release music more often”.

“There are moments of sadness, of nostalgia, and my music right now is fed by that cocktail,” said Shakira. Although there is still sadness in her life and she can focus on her music career, talking about her ‘Copa Vacia’ track in which rats appear she has confirmed that she is still “surrounded by rats” and that this year she has dedicated herself to “cleaning the house, exterminating the rats”.

In addition, the Colombian stated to the magazine that her life has changed drastically and her dreams are no longer going to come true: “My biggest dream was to raise my children with their father, to have a family. To overcome problems, obstacles… and to grow old next to someone. I know I’m not going to have that”.
