Taylor Swift makes donation to Gleaners food bank ahead of Detroit shows

As she arrives in Detroit for the latest shows on her Eras Tour, Taylor Swift has made what’s been described as “a generous donation” to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.

The pop star, set to perform Friday and Saturday at Ford Field, has been donating to food banks in cities throughout the tour, which kicked off in March.

The amount of Swift’s Gleaners donation was undisclosed.

“Taylor Swift’s support of food banks across the country comes at such a critical time for so many emergency food providers — when resources are down, and need is up,” Kristin Sokul of Gleaners said in a statement.

“Her generosity goes beyond dollars for meals. The space in her heart will empower households across Southeast Michigan to live happier, healthier lives and elevate the important issue of food security so others who have the ability to help can be inspired by her example. The entire Gleaners team is so grateful for this incredible gift.”

Bruce Springsteen, appearing at Little Caesars Arena in March, also touted the value of Gleaners, telling his audience the food bank is doing “God’s work.”

Swift’s announcement came as throngs of fans donning sparkles and friendship bracelets began arriving in downtown Detroit, filling up parking lots and QLine cars Friday afternoon. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the shows start at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
