Catwoman’s Taylor Swift Easter Egg is the Ultimate Midnights Homage

A Taylor Swift song just made a surprise cameo in the pages of DC Comics, as one of her hit songs off of Midnights was quoted by Stan Lee’s Catwoman.

DC Comics just featured the ultimate Taylor Swift reference in a new story featuring Stan Lee’s version of Catwoman. In Tales from Earth-6: A Celebration of Stan Lee #1, dialogue from the heroine is ripped directly from a hit song from the pop star’s album, Midnights, with the writer of the comic confirming the incredible Easter Egg.

In the new story, “The Cat and the Canary,” by Meghan Fitzmartin, Anthony Marques, Mark Morales, Dave Stewart, and Pat Brosseau from Tales from Earth-6: A Celebration of Stan Lee #1 by DC Comics, Stan Lee’s version of Catwoman finds herself trapped in a cage alongside Dinah Lance after visiting the mansion of a businessman. After using her long claws to break free and take down several guards, Joanie Jordan takes down the businessman. At the same time, she has a badᴀss inner monologue, which directly quotes the Taylor Swift song, “Vigilante Shit,” from her newest album, Midnights.

The Taylor Swift Easter Egg Features One Of Her Most Recent Hits
“Vigilnate Shit” is one of the tracks from Taylor Swift’s 2022 album, Midnights. The song, produced by her longtime collaborator, Jack Antonoff, is the most minimalist-sounding song from the pop star’s newest project. “Vigilante Shit” is about fighting for a cause and getting revenge, while it’s rumored to also be about Scooter Braun, who famously purchased Swift’s catalog, which led to her re-recording her songs as Taylor’s versions to gain some control back with them. The lyrical Easter Egg ends up being a perfect song to show off Catwoman taking down the men trying to keep her in a cage.

The writer of the short story featuring Stan Lee’s Catwoman, Meghan Fitzmartin, confirmed the Easter Egg, writing on Twitter that she wrote the story when Taylor Swift’s Midnights came out and that “no one embodied Vigilante Shit” than the character. She’s right, as it showcases what makes the hero such a badᴀss in the pages of DC Comics.

With hopes that Stan Lee’s versions of DC heroes eventually get an animated movie, it’s possible that Catwoman could get her own moment like from the comic where Taylor Swift’s “Vigilante Shit” from Midnights is used in an actual fight scene. Regardless if that happens, the Taylor Swift Easter Egg is great as it adds some personality to the badᴀss scene, as readers who know the song surely had it playing in their heads while reading it.
