Liam Hemsworth is getting the last laugh in his divorce from Miley Cyrus, after her blistering breakup song Flowers was accused of being a ripoff.

The Hunger Games actor, 34, was married to Miley, 31, from 2018 to 2020, and three years after their bitter split Cyrus released a savage breakup anthem called Flowers, which was rumoured to be about Liam.

However, Miley is now being sued for copyright infringement over her 2023 hit, for allegedly copying the 2013 Bruno Mars song When I Was Your Man.

Liam and Miley met in 2009 when they played lovers in the romance movie The Last Song, based on the best-selling Nicholas Sparks novel.

Their offscreen chemistry was as strong as their on-screen romance, and the pair began dating.

However, their relationship was marked by highs and lows and after getting engaged in June 2012, they called things off in September 2013.

But in January 2016 they were again frequently spotted together and rumours began to circulate they had reconciled.

In October that year, Miley confirmed they were once again engaged and they married in December 2018.

In August 2019, Miley filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, and their married officially ended in January 2020.

Last year, Miley took to social media to reflect on their time together: ‘In 2008, I needed to do another feature film for Disney. Once written, it was time to audition all the guys who would play my boyfriend.’

After narrowing down the pool from thousands, the Malibu hitmaker said ‘Liam was a part of that final three.’

‘I think one of the elements that made that movie feel so special was it was watching two young people fall in love, which was happening in real life,’ she continued.

‘That was the beginning of a long 10-year relationship,’ she mused, referring to their pᴀssionate, on-and-off relationship, which led to two engagements and an eight-month marriage.

Three years after their divorce, Miley released Flowers, a brutal break up song in which she sings about all the great things she can now do without her former partner.

The song, which was written by Miley and two others, has now been hit with a with a copyright infringement lawsuit, for allegedly copying Bruno Mars’ 2013 song.

However, it’s not Mars suing Cyrus, but rather Tempo Music Investments, TMZ reported on Monday.

In the lawsuit, Tempo Music accused Cyrus of ‘intentionally copying’ When I Was Your Man in Flowers due to the significant similarities between the two songs.

The investment company claims that Flowers features a similar melody and harmonies to the earlier song, both in the verses and in the chorus.

There are similarities between them, both being slow pop-rock break up ballads with similar lyrics, with Bruno singing, ‘I should have bought you flowers, held your hand’ while Miley croons ‘I can buy myself flowers, write my name in the sand.’

Sine their breakup, Liam has been spotted getting cosy with glamorous model Gabriella Brooks, while Miley has been dating music producer Maxx Morando since 2021.
