Just how oversized can you go, Justin?

Just how oversized can you go, Justin?

Justin Bieber lives in oversized. It’s a comfortable life. He swims in cotton-terry hoodies.

He sees through enlarged, bug-eyed sunglᴀsses, and his pants billow with the texture of the sails of a 17th-century sailing ship. That’s just how he rolls. But what happens when your clothes grow faster than you do?

When he’s not playing the public call-and-response matched clothing game with his wife Hailey, Justin Bieber is still living sweetly in his baggy aesthetic.

As we recover from the scare of a potential Indie Sleaze revival, where skinny-jeans and tight-tees dominated the fashion landscape, Bieber looks positively unbothered by the shrinking of silhouettes around him.

As he regularly is, Bieber was spotted hand-in-hand with wife Hailey, who we might add also tapped into her oversized wardrobe, but Bieber was the one wearing the (baggy) pants. Alongside the plain grey hoodie, oversized white tee peeking out from underneath, Bieber had some of his largest pants on to date.

Pop-up: The 26-year-old skin care founder and 29-year-old music artist went to coffee shop Community Goods, where fans had a chance to win Rhode products

Taking a workwear style taupe trouser and adding a few extra inches from waistline to hem opening. Rounding out the look with a pair of yet-to-be released pair of slippers from his brand Drew.

Not content with the age-old tradition of the break in pants sitting pretty above the shoe, this is a full break in every sense of the term. When the hemline of your pants is quite literally eating your shoes, we ask you Justin—“where do we draw the line?” How oversized is too oversized?

Will we see denim or tracksuits looking like they’ve had air pumped into them? Past looks have seen just as enlarged leather jackets paired with chocolate brown slacks—with enough room around the thighs to complete a roundhouse kick in comfort.

The rules around pants are anyone’s guess these days, Bieber has kept his oversized shtick close from the streets to the red carpets, so it’s unlikely he’ll be slimming it down any time soon. We’re here to send the challenge to get those bad boys larger. Bolder. Baggier.

It brings back memories of the grip Jnco Jeans had on subcultures in the late ’90s—pants that Bieber has already experimented with. Made popular in hip-hop in the late ’90s, the wide jeans were all the rage.

Where the flared looks swamped ankles and feet around the world. Australia had its own take in the mid ’00s when “Melbourne Shuffle” took off, the effect of the wide leg opening on the dance movement made it look like the dancer was floating. But then everything got skinny again—at least for some.

Bieber however, is no shuffler, nor is he a rapper, he’s strolling comfortably in the North American springtime, as we Down Under head into the cooler months, maybe taking a few sizes up in your favourite jeans or trousers could be just the louche look you need lazy mornings in the cold. But just like Bieber, you too need to ask yourself, “how oversized are you willing to go?”
