Kim Kardashian and Monsters Star Cooper Koch Visited the Menendez Brothers in Prison
In a beautiful expression of compᴀssion and savvy PR, Kim Kardashian paid Erik and Lyle Menendez—both serving life sentences for the first-degree murder of their parents—a visit in prison. And she brought actor Cooper Koch along.’
Kardashian and Koch, who plays Erik Menendez in the recent Netflix series, dropped by the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego to talk about the Green Space project—“a reform strategy about beautifying prison yards to help inmates rehabilitate,” per TMZ—with a group of roughly 40 inmates that included the Menendez brothers, who have apparently spearheaded the project. An unnamed source also tipped off TMZ about the visit, adding that Khloé Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and movie producer and prison reform activist Scott Budnick joined her.
Ryan Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is currently the top series on Netflix. The limited series tells the story of the murders and the trial, in which the brothers claimed that they had been Sєxually abused by their father (the prosecution called this a lie and said their motive was greed). It’s come under criticism, however, for seemingly implying that the siblings also had a Sєxual relationship with one another. Critics were confused by the choice, and Erik himself wrote in a statement, “It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without bad intent.”
Meanwhile, Netflix is about to drop a docuseries about the Menendezes in October, and the brothers participated in that project. Kim Kardashian recently appeared in Murphy’s American Horror Story, and she and the superproducer are working on their own scripted project about Kardashian as a divorce lawyer, though this is for Hulu, home of The Kardashians.
So I’m not saying that this visit, which reportedly took place the day after Erik slammed the show, is in any way PR to make it look as though everyone is on the same team, with Murphy sending Kardashian as an emissary to smooth things over on Netflix’s behalf while increasing her legal bona fides before their show goes into production.
I’m just saying, it’s probably that.
