Miley Cyrus, who rose to fame as a child star on Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana, became emotional as she praised fans of the show after being named a ‘Disney Legend’.

The Grammy-award winning singer received a standing ovation from the 12,000-strong crowd when she became the youngest star honoured with the Disney Legend status at the company’s biennial fan convention, D23.

Country singer Lainey Wilson introduced Cyrus with a rendition of Hannah Montana theme track ‘The Best Of Both Worlds’, before thanking the star for ‘never being afraid to step outside the box’.

“This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality.”

“To quote the legend herself, This Is The life,” she continued, referencing the 2006 Hannah Montana track which featured on the show.

Disney Legend status is an honor given to those who are deemed to have significantly influenced the company.

During her speech, Cyrus made a witty reference to rumors that Disney kids are created in the Californian Disney office.

“I definitely wasn’t created in a lab,” she said. “And if I was, there must have been a bug in the system which caused me to malfunction somewhere between the years of 2013 and 2016,” she joked, referencing her ‘Wrecking Ball’ era.

Cyrus also became emotional on stage when giving advice about fear.

“What I want to say is that legends get scared too,” she said. “I’m scared right now, but the difference is we do it anyway and all of you can do that every single day.

“It’s legendary to be afraid and do it anyway. There is no such thing as failure when you try, that’s the only way you lose.”

However, while Cyrus starred on Hannah Montana alongside her country singer star dad Billy Ray Cyrus, she failed to mention him in her speech.

Her father starred as her on-screen dad Robby Stewart on the show for all four of the seasons it ran for.

The omission comes amid rumors that Cyrus and her father have become estranged in more recent years.

The singer also failed to mention her dad in her Grammy Award acceptance speech earlier this year after winning Record Of The Year for her hit song ‘Flowers’.

It’s thought that the pair may have fallen out after the ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ singer wed Firerose last year, who is 27 years his junior.

They have since filed for divorce.

We can all agree that the 2024 Grammys were a big one for Miley Cyrus.

After a whopping six Grammy nominations, Miley, 31 won two awards for her song ‘Flowers’ – Best Pop Vocal Performance and Record of the Year.

But despite receiving recognition for her incredible achievements, there was one elephant in the room when the singer stepped up to accept her award.

Having made history in her career by collecting her first Grammys, Miley used the opportunity not only to praise her fellow artists, but also to give a shoutout to the people who had helped to get her there.

She said: “This award is amazing. But I really hope that it doesn’t change anything because my life was beautiful yesterday. Not everyone in the world will get a Grammy, but everyone in this world is spectacular.

“So please don’t think that this is important, even though it’s very important, right guys?”

Miley then thanked her mom and her sister during the speech, before adding: “I don’t think I forgot anyone – but I might’ve forgotten underwear. Bye!”

Ever since the acceptance speech, people have been wondering why Miley didn’t thank her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.

Fans were quick to weigh in on the drama, and while it’s not clear whether Miley chose not to shoutout her dad, people have a lot of thoughts.

“Did y’all catch the shade Miley threw at her dad during her award speech?” one person wrote on X, while another posted: “Miley deliberately leave out her dad in her thank you speech ???”

Many have been wondering if there’s some sort of drama between Miley and certain family members, following her parents’ divorce.

Billy Ray and Miley’s mom, Tish, announced their divorce in April 2022 after nearly 30 years of marriage, with Tish having since gone on to marry Prison Break star Dominic Purcell.

Only Miley and Tish’s children from a previous relationship were at the wedding, despite Billy Ray and Tish having two other children – Miley’s sister, Noah, and brother, Braison.

When Billy Ray and Tish divorced, it seemed to be on amicable terms.

“It is after 30 years, five amazing children and a lifetime of memories, we have decided to go our separate ways – not with sadness, but with love in our hearts,” they told People in a statement.

“We have grown up together, raised a family we can be so proud of, and it is now time to create our own paths.”

It’s unclear whether there have been any feuds since, but Billy Ray, 62, has also moved on.

The star got engaged to Australian singer Firerose, 34, in August 2022 before marrying last October.

Miley’s reinvention reached its peak in 2013 as she entered her Bangerz era, which coincided with the release of her fourth studio album of the same name.

The record gave us hits like the molly-referencing first single ‘We Can’t Stop’ and the power ballad ‘Wrecking Ball’, the latter’s music video sees the star licking a sledgehammer and swinging from a wrecking ball naked.

As her new image sparked controversy, the year 2013 is perhaps best remembered for Miley’s performance at the MTV VMAs, where she joined R&B crooner, Robin Thicke, on stage for performance of his song ‘Blurred Lines’.

Thicke, who wore a Beetlejuice-style striped black and white suit, stood as Miley twerked on him and stuck her tongue out, which became the most talked about moment of the night.

Miley’s antics angered many which weighed heavily on the ‘Angels Like You’ singer.

In an interview with British Vogue earlier this year, she said: “I carried some guilt and shame around myself for years because of how much controversy and upset I really caused.

“I was creating attention for myself because I was dividing myself from a character I played,” the Black Mirror star continued.

Miley is now looking back at her past in her new ballad, ‘Used to Be Young’, which was released today (25 August) a decade on from her wild VMAs performance.

The new single honours the chart-topping singer’s 20s and includes the lyrics: “I know I used to be crazy / I know I used to be fun / You say ‘I used to be wild’ / I say I used to be young.”

The simple music video sees the star wearing a Mickey Mouse top while she sings to the camera. Not much else happens, apart from a few tears she sheds throughout the clip.

While promoting the song on Twitter, Miley said: “This song is about honoring who we’ve been, loving who we are & celebrating who we will become

“I feel proud when reflecting on my past and joyful when thinking about the future. I am grateful to my loyal fans who make my dreams a reality daily. I am sincerely thankful for the stability of your steadfast support.”

The talk of last night’s Grammys happened to be all about Miley Cyrus’ bodyguard – and it was all down to his umbrella.

Confused? Let’s shed some light into what happened.

It was a spectacular evening for the former Hannah Montana star, who picked up a Grammy Award for her hit track ‘Flowers’ in the Record of the Year category.

But before this incredible moment, fans couldn’t help but clock something rather worrying.

As the ‘Used To Be Young’ singer made her way down the red carpet wearing a see-through gold mesh dress, onlookers – and people of the internet – couldn’t help but focus on the bodyguard to her right.

Did you catch it? Notice anything at all?

While it’s not clear from the (first few) glances, it’s his umbrella which has gained attention, as it has a similar resemblance to ‘an ᴀssault umbrella’ that you see in the Kingsman films.

The speculation online is that it is in fact a concealed firearm, which is hidden within the umbrella.

While some agree that this would be beneficial for a security guard to have, others believed the idea of it being a weapon was pretty unlikely.

While plenty have commented on the suspicious looking umbrella, bona fide security specialist Will Geddes told LADbible that people thinking there must be more to it than keeping the rain away might be onto something.

He did confirm that some bodyguards do actually used umbrellas as a form of concealed protection.

He explained: “So if they are a licenced protection officer, which I would imagine Miley will have, then there’s every good chance that he will be carrying a weapon anyway”

“But having said that, in terms of the umbrella, the umbrella is a really practical tool, you will see it being used by quite a few celebrities. It’s used for two reasons.

“There are very special tactical umbrellas that you can actually buy. If you go onto Google, you’ll actually see some, and you put in tactical umbrella.

“These umbrellas are very, very rigid. They’re not like your regular umbrellas, which just simply sort of fold if you hit someone with them, they’re reinforced steel.”

Geddes revealed that he’d used the tactical umbrella himself a few times and found it to be ‘highly effective’.

“There’s every good chance that he was using that umbrella to basically make it less easy for somebody if they wanted to chuck something,” the experienced security specialist explained.

“Miley has a lot of threats against continually, you know, mad crazies fans and stalkers, so there’s every good chance that she would have a) have good security, but b) that they might use this kind of tool.

“The only thing that slightly foxed me was that he was rigid, and he was just staring straight ahead. He wasn’t really looking at anything around.

“So there’s a good chance that they will be on the first secure perimeter that they’ve got through, which is why he then felt comfortable enough that he didn’t have to have his eyes darting around the places any normal closed potential would in an unsecured area.”

While it makes sense for it to be a concealed weapon in order to protect Miley, but the idea seems to outlandish. I guess we’ll never know..
