Miley Cyrus’ Joe Rogan Podcast Remark Goes Viral

A video clip of Miley Cyrus taking a playful swipe at Joe Rogan after he made a comment about RuPaul’s Drag Race almost four years ago has gone viral on social media.

“Flowers” hitmaker Cyrus, 31, is known to be a huge fan of the RuPaul Charles-fronted drag compeтιтion, and has even appeared on the show, which has spawned a host of spin-offs and international adaptations since it debuted back in 2009.

During a September 2020 interview with powerhouse podcaster Rogan, 56, the star spoke about her love of the show, stating that “nothing really harmful is gonna come out of just slapping some wigs on and calling it a day.”

The conversation then veered into the contestants performing death drops, a dramatic move in which dancers drop to the ground before getting back up, and Rogan revealed that he had never seen the show and wasn’t aware of the maneuver.

As they pulled up video examples of death drops, Cyrus expressed her excitement as she watched drag contestants from the show in all their glory. After watching for a while, however, Rogan had an observation to share with his guest.

“They all do the same move,” the host of The Joe Rogan Experience complained to Cyrus. “They drop down and do the splits.”

Without missing a beat, Cyrus casually replied: “That’s what I think when I’m watching your shows, too—all the same stuff.”

For his part, Rogan laughed at Cyrus’ quip as the two continued to watch clips from RuPaul’s Drag Race, and the pop star waxed lyrical about her love of the show.

A 10-second excerpt showing Cyrus’ response to Rogan was shared on X, formerly Twitter, on June 1 to mark the beginning of LGBTQ+ Pride Month.

Amid a thread of “LGBTQ+ moments in pop culture” that have made headlines over the years, the Cyrus-Rogan exchange was shared alongside the caption: “When Joe Rogan tried it with Drag Race and Miley Cyrus said not today.”

As of press time, the resurfaced clip has garnered more than 900,000 views.

Back in 2019, Cyrus made an appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race dressed in drag as a man as she posed as a member of the film crew. A contestant soon recognized the pop singer, who served as Season 11’s first guest judge.

Elsewhere in her 2020 interview with Rogan, Cyrus said: “When I said earlier I’m not religious, that’s a lie. I am RuPaul’s-batarian, like, I f*** with RuPaul. RuPaul is god. RuPaul lives by, ‘If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you going to love anybody else? Can I get a amen?'”

Adding that her idol has “got it all figured out,” Cyrus, who recorded the track “Catтιтude” with RuPaul, added: “RuPaul, mama Ru, she’s my life.

The Cyrus-Rogan clip has gone viral after it was revealed that legislation is being considered by states across the country to limit drag and wider LGBTQ+ inclusion. The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) stated in April 2023 that there were 14 state legislatures considering bills to restrict or ban drag.

Lawmakers have previously expressed concerns over Drag Queen Story Hour—readings for children by drag performers at libraries—arguing the proposed laws are necessary to protect children, but critics argue they create a hostile environment and infringe on LGBTQ+ rights.
