Miley Cyrus Says She Has No Plans To Ever Tour Again

“Singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn’t really the thing that I love,” Miley Cyrus admitted.

Miley Cyrus may continue to release music, but that doesn’t mean she will take her songs out on the road. In fact, the 30-year-old pop star and daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus says she is no longer interested in touring.

In a brand new upcoming cover issue for British Vogue, Cyrus opened up about her decision to pull away from living the tour bus kind of lifestyle.

“There’s No Connection… There’s No Safety”

“Singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn’t really the thing that I love,” Cyrus admitted in the exclusive interview. “There’s no connection. There’s no safety. It’s also not natural.” She added, “It’s so isolating because if you’re in front of 100,000 people, then you are alone.”

Cyrus did, however, say that she does enjoy performing for small groups of people, mostly her friends. And when she’s not delighting them with her vocals and tunes, she is catching up with them in other ways, like “walking through rose gardens” and visiting places like museums.

“You’re more likely to catch me and my friends literally walking through rose gardens or going to a museum,” she shared. “It’s not about being self-serious. I’ve just evolved.”

Miley Cyrus Is Stepping Away From Touring For Health Reasons

But Cyrus’ choice to capture hearts with smaller functions isn’t necessarily selfish. She also makes clear that she is stepping away from full touring for health reasons.

According to the outlet, the Tennessee native “suffers from chronic pain and inflammation, which she said flares up after too much stimuli.”

Cyrus had one of those episodes in which her “adrenals had been kind of drained” during an industry-related event surrounding her latest album, Endless Summer.

The project, released in March, includes the track “Flowers,” which became the fastest song in the history of Spotify to rack up a billion streams. “I was in a lot of pain,” Cyrus said of the scary moment. “I was kind of back into the pop star thing and I noticed I had this flare-up.”

Cyrus also took to Instagram to clarify that she isn’t stepping away from the stage to disconnect from fans. Instead, she says the thought of living on a bus and sleeping on tour isn’t the best thing for her at the present moment.

In a lengthy note to her fans she writes, “For clarity I feel connected to my fans NOW more than ever. When I win we win. Even if I don’t see them face to face every night at a concert, my fans are felt deeply in my heart.

I’m constantly creating and innovating new ways that I can stay connected to the audience I love—without sacrificing my own essentials.

Performing for YOU has been some of the best days of my life and we will continue this journey together as we have for the last almost two decades. These looks I’ve been turning don’t travel well. The archival looks don’t fold.

I just don’t want to sleep on a moving bus. It isn’t what’s best for me right NOW. But never say never. If you’ve been following my career you know that I always change and the way I feel about that could too.”

“Love you forever, I’m just on my Endless Summer Vacation,” Cyrus closed out her message.

Only Performed A Handful Of Concerts In 2022

Eagle-eyed fans may have noticed that Cyrus has been increasingly showing signs of stepping out of the spotlight. In 2022, she only performed a handful of shows at various music festivals as part of her brief Attention Tour for her 2020 Plastic Hearts album. During the year prior, she had a few performances, including a musical guest slot on Saturday Night Live. In 2015, she launched an eight-date Milky Milky Milk Tour, in support of her album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz.

Her latest lengthy global run was her 2014 Bangerz tour, which included more than 70 dates and took Cyrus from North America to Europe to Latin America to Australia and New Zealand.

Since releasing albums – 2017’s Younger Now and 2023’s Endless Summer Vacation, Cyrus hasn’t gone on to line up a string of road dates in a similar fashion.

“It’s been a minute,” Cyrus acknowledged. “After the last [headline arena] show I did, I kind of looked at it as more of a question. And I can’t.”

“Not only ‘can’t,’ because can’t is your capability, but my desire. Do I want to live my life for anyone else’s pleasure or fulfillment other than my own?” Cyrus concluded.
