Shakira’s ex Gerard Piqué caught up in painfully awkward moment as football fans chant singer’s name at him

Gerard Piqué had the name of his ex-partner Shakira chanted at him in Madrid on Saturday.

The 36-year-old footballing star took to the stage at a nightclub in the Spanish capital to mark his Kings League tournament.

The Kings League is the seven-a-side tournament Gerard founded last year.

Celebrating the occasion, Gerard hopped on stage, microphone in hand, to conduct a speech, but footage shows he was drowned out by the sound of those in attendance shouting his 46-year-old ex’s name.

Gerard and Shakira – full name Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll – split last year after 11 years together and share two young kids, Milan and Sasha.

Announcing their parting of ways last June, Shakira released a statement that read: ‘We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding.’

Last month, Shakira reflected on their split in an interview with People en Español.

The hitmaker touched on rumours that Gerard had cheated on her while she was with her poorly 91-year-old father in hospital.

Shakira told the outlet: ‘While he [her dad] was at Milan’s first communion, he was gravely injured in an accident. Everything happened at once. My home was falling apart.’

She continued: ‘I was finding out through the press that I had been betrayed while my dad was in the ICU.’

The very public split and subsequent hospitalisation of her father left Shakira feeling like she was not ‘going to survive’, especially as she is so close to her family.

‘The man I have loved the most in my life, my father, was leaving me when I needed him the most,’ she added. ‘I couldn’t talk to him, or go to my best friend for the advice I needed so much.’

Since her split last year, the Hips Don’t Lie singer has been swept up in a reported love triangle with Tom Cruise and Sir Lewis Hamilton.

The F1 star seems to have driven away the compeтιтion as a source shared they were in a ‘fun and flirty’ stage of dating.

Gerard on the other hand has been savaged by fans as he posted a picture of his new girlfriend, Clara Chia Martí, 24, on Instagram
