Shakira has recently been on the front page of many publications following her globally acclaimed separation from former soccer star Gerard Pique.

Shakira’s full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll. She is a global superstar in the world of music and songwriting. The Colombian singer entered the Music Industry back in 1991 with her first album.

Shakira would eventually go on to deliver mᴀssive hits like “Waka Waka” and “Hips Don’t Lie.” She has been honored with the Grammy award on three separate occasions. The singer has also been endearingly called the “Queen of Latin Music.”

Shakira was born in Colombia in 1977. She is a Colombian national but her roots can be traced back to Lebanon and Spain. Her mother was of Spanish descent while her Father was of Lebanese descent.

As a child, the singer was raised Catholic. She even attended Catholic schools in her childhood.

At only 4 years old, Shakira dazzled her family and friends by writing her first poem. Shakira discovered that she had a knack for live performance quite early on in life. She reportedly sang regularly in her school for her friends and the Catholic nuns.

William Mebarak Chadid and Nidia Ripoll Torrado are Shakira’s biological parents. She is their only child. However, her Father William has eight other children from his previous marriage. As a result, Shakira has eight half-brothers.

Shakira’s Father was born in New York City to Lebanese parents but his family soon moved to Colombia. There, he met Shakira’s Mother, whose Colombian family had Spanish roots. They eventually got married and a daughter was born to them shortly thereafter.

Some reports even suggest that Shakira is also of part-Italian descent as she has an old ancestor with the Italian surname, “Pisciotti.”

After making it big as a singer and songwriter, Shakira got romantically involved with Gerard Pique, the former Spanish defender, shortly after the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Shakira and Pique started a family and lived together for many years, albeit out of wedlock.

The pair has been blessed with two children, Sasha and Milan.

After 12 years of being together, Shakira and Pique decided to part ways after reports of the Ex-Barcelona defender cheating on Shakira became public. The couple separated from each other and were involved in a court battle for the custody of their children.
