Taylor Swift Brings Her Squad Back in Style

It was the mid-2010s: Taylor Swift was in her 1989 era, filled with crop tops and Polaroids. As notable as her songs (“Blank Space” remains a bop) were her crew of high-profile friends, known collectively as The Squad. (Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, and Lorde were a few of the members.) The culmination of this very public display of friendship was Swift’s indelible 2016 Fourth of July bash in Rhode Island, attended by Blake Lively, Cara Delevingne, and Uzo Aduba and involving matching swimsuits.

It was a simpler time (among other things, the West-Kardashian feud and the issue of Swift’s masters were a twinkle in the public’s eye). But in the wake of her rumored split from Joe Alwyn, Swift seems to be leaning on her close friends and allowing the paparazzi to take pH๏τos of their outings once again. It’s like we’ve flashed back to 2014—and it feels so good.

Yesterday, Taylor Swift was spotted in New York City with her longtime besties Lively, Hadid, Este Haim, Danielle Haim, and Alana Haim heading to Zero Bond. Swift led the pack in a black mini with a chain detail on the waist and black loafers (sensible for NYC streets). Hadid and Lively both chose to wear denim, with Hadid in ripped pants and a patchwork jacket, while Lively dressed up her high-waisted style with heels. The Haim sisters kept it sleek, wearing tall black boots and short skirts.

Sure, this could just be a group of friends grabbing drinks—but the timing feels significant. Swift has been pH๏τographed regularly in the two weeks since Entertainment Tonight broke the news of the split. And while she’s eschewed overt revenge dressing, having a night out with your A-list besties seems like an effective way to say to anyone watching: “I’m doing good, I’m on some new sнιт,” to quote Swift’s song “The 1.” Hopefully, this sighting means that the Fourth of July party is back on.
