Taylor Swift Changes Into a Sparkly Asymmetric Minidress at the 2024 VMAs

A big contrast to her grungy plaid ensemble

Taylor Swift changed into a sparkly, whimsical minidress with an unexpected design at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.

After walking the red carpet in a yellow and black grungy, Reputation-coded, motorcycle-inspired plaid ensemble from Christian Dior, the pop star made a quick change. Her second dress of the evening was a sleeveless custom MONSE piece with an asymmetric skirt and a painterly print of a dreamy garden landscape made bizarre by the alien spaceship that was floating above. The entire mini was covered in shimmering sequins, while the straps looked like thin black leather belts.

Swift styled the dress with the same black leather thigh-high boots from Stuart Weitzman that she wore with her first ensemble, as well as with her same Lorraine Schwartz earrings and dark, revenge glam.

Swift is leading the list of stars with a whopping 12 nominations tonight, including in the categories of Best Pop, Artist of the Year, and Most Iconic Performance, where she is up against icons including Madonna, Britney Spears, and Beyoncé. Swift’s “Fortnight” music video is nominated in eight categories.

Swift’s sparkly outfit change comes as she is expected to announce the release of he rerecorded Reputation album. It is one of the two albums she has yet to rerecord, and a reveal tonight would come exactly 15 years after Ye (formerly Kanye West) infamously interrupted her VMAs award acceptance speech to gush about Beyoncé, kicking off what would become a yearslong feud between himself and the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer.
