Taylor Swift is not buying the Burgoyne House in Kinderhook

KINDERHOOK — On Monday night, screams of teenage girls could be heard in homes across Kinderhook. So said their parents in response to a Facebook post from Ichabod Crane Middle School co-principal Timothy Farley on his personal page about a rumor floating around town.

“It appears that Taylor Swift may become our neighbor. If the rumor is true, she has recently purchased the historic Burgoyne House across from the old Martin Van Buren Elementary School,” Farley wrote.

He added the pop star has ties to the area as her producer is located in Stuyvesant, referring to the fact that Swift worked with Hudson Valley-based producers Jack Antonoff and Ryan Dessner at Long Pond Studio for her 2020 studio albums “Folklore” and “Evermore.” Swift also used footage of the Greeneville Drive-in’s 80-by-35-foot screen as a backdrop for the lyric video for her 2020 single “This Is Me Trying.”

If he had the chance, Gates would love to sell her (another?) house: 235 McCagg Road in nearby Valatie, not far from Kinderhook’s main drag. It’s an ultra-private, postmodern luxury house built in 2005 with five bedrooms and 6,800 square feet on nearly 100 acres. It has a long driveway with no one in sight behind a security gate. The $2.65 million home has a “tremendous” saltwater pool, a guest house, a movie theater, beautiful eastern views and a gym.

That, Gates imagines, would be more Swift’s speed. “It’s a real grown-up house.”
