Too many spectators dancing together, Taylor Swift concert created an earthquake

Taylor Swift’s latest performance in Seattle (USA) is currently causing a lot of attention after a video recorded fans together dancing continuously to her song. The problem here is that hundreds of thousands of people dancing together seems to have shaken the ground a bit, which is also captured in the video itself.

Soon after, seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach analyzed and confirmed Taylor Swift’s fans caused an earthquake of about 2.3 magnitude. This small earthquake may have been caused by a combination of the sound from the concert and the dancing of the audience present.

This concert of the 1989 vocalist broke the record for earthquakes caused by human movement at Lumen Field. In 2011, spectators at a Seahawks football match also caused a magnitude 2.0 earthquake. The fans were constantly shouting and stomping their feet, making the ground shake. This event was later called the “Beast Quake”.

According to the researchers, the small earthquake caused by Taylor Swift fans did not have a negative impact. The reason is that this is not an actual earthquake but just man-made tremors.
